We had a weird day at Disneyland...Fiiiiight!!!
A man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly attacking workers in front of the Tower of Terror ride at Disney's California Adventure Park in Anaheim.
In a YouTube video of the encounter, the man is seen flailing at a security employee and struggling to keep his balance outside the ride. Another employee, dressed in the Tower of Terror bellhop uniform, can be seen asking the crowd to "back up."
A woman is heard in the video shouting, "You're in Disneyland ... there are kids here." It was posted on the video sharing site with a caption that reads, "We had a weird day at Disneyland...Fiiiiight!!!"
Police responded to the park at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to find patrons holding the man down on the ground, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.
The suspect was identified as 53-year-old Glenn Horlacher. He was arrested on charges of battery and assault, and released from jail Saturday night, according to NBCLosAngeles.com.
A security guard was treated for minor injuries.
"Our security cast member was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for the injuries he sustained and then released," according to a statement released by the park on Monday. "We appreciate the actions of the guests who came to his aid during this uncharacteristic incident."
Investigators were attempting to determine what prompted the altercation, which park officials described as a "very unusual occurrence."
Park officials would not, however, quantify how often park visitors are arrested or detained.
Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown told msnbc.com on Tuesday that there were no plans to change security procedures at the park as a result of the incident, which she said was still under review.

He probably just wanted to punch whoever that woman was with that incredibly grating voice. ;)
Snark aside, the obviously eager to empty his pepper spray can guy in the band leader suit sure wasn't helping things. On two occasions it appears the guy has had enough and is ready to just sit there and wait, but he come in and starts blasting away again with the pepper spray. At that point your not subduing the guy, your just enraging him.
Did not appear the employees had any real training on what to do. There should have a dozen or so of them come running out out of the ride because the last thing you really want him is the customers playing pig pile on the crazy guy.
I have to agree, captain pepper spray clearly has no idea how to handle this situation; I'd go so far as to say they should have also arrested the guy with the pepper spray for assault.
I fully agree, while the guy has no justification in swinging on people in the first place... it's like, there weren't trained security dealing with it, it was a bunch of jerkoffs from the crowd? I'm sorry but if I'm that guy, I'm not going to submit to anyone other then an authority figure, so is it any wonder he continued swinging on people when that one dude continued spraying him w/ the mace?
and seriously, the loud annoying stupid woman that can't shut her mouth and continues fanning the flames by talking a bunch of crap? oh yeah she was sure helping out the situation too. shame on her. and also shame on the people who sat by and filmed it and talked crap as well. if all of you onlookers wanted to actually HELP, you should have broken the two of them up - mace guy and drunk guy, and waited for the authorities. this is why CIVILIANS are not supposed to handle law enforcement, essentially what happened is all of those civilians sided against the drunk, and were more then happy to sit there and watch that guy mace the crap out of him; but god forbid he try to defend himself right?
That's just Goofy.
The pepper spray guy should be booked for assault, and who knows how this started..and Yes Ray that woman's voice was grating, not unlike so many american womens voices nowdays/
He should at least be disciplined or retrained, maybe even fired, I don't know about arrested. He was doing his job, he just obviously had no idea how to do it. I think when a guy has stopped fighting and is wiping his eyes, it's time to put away the spray. I'd have been pissed and tried to go after him again, too.
Scott....the guy spraying the pepper spray WAS a security guard. Trust me, if this guy swung at me and then kept coming back to swing again....I'd spray him too!!
Anyone notice the young woman with the 'beverage' in her hand at the end? Wonder if that stuff played any part in it? Not seeing how it started, I can't say that I was pleased with very much this video. One old man, a bunch of kids, a pepper spray happy whatever he was and alcohol involved.....all at Disney.
This guy was obviously drunk. Or had had enough of Disneyland, been there. It appears that the "Security Guard" with the pepper spray is clearly an idiot. All he did was exasterbate the issue by continuing to spray the perp. He needs to be fired!!
Mickey needs to get professional training for the security!
We did not see the whole thing the video started partway through and it seems to me he got what was coming to him...he seemed like he was drunk or on something
So typical attacking the one who is trying to stop the idiot making a scene. You don't know what was happening before the video starts. As far as the women all she is doing is trying to make the guy realize where he is at, I feel sorry for your girlfriends or wife's.
It's a good think that guy was a drunk old tub of lard. What would have happened if the guy was a sober 6 foot 5 body builder arena fighter?
Hey John...in response to your highly predictable misogynistic comment:
"Mr Scrappy" certainly was doughy, puffy, slack-jawed, and vacant-looking like so many American males these days.
Spraying him that 2nd time was totally not needed and only made things worse.....
I love how security was johnny on the spot
NOT
"Captain Pepper Spray" was just spraying the man because he was clearly screaming out swear words at disney world the HAPPIEST place on earth. The guy was also spraying the man because he was swearing in front a ride that kids go on. And isn't the guy with the pepper spray WORK FOR DISNEY!!!!!
I think the guy with the pepper spray SHOULDN'T BE ARRESTED
Rednecks---what a better world it would be if they kept them properly caged. It's alright to let them out, as long as on a lease and heavily medicated, (not alcohol, with Thorazine.) It kinda tickles me that some people feel that we white folks are a superior race.
I didn't know you could physically assault someone with a weapon for "swearing".
Pepper Spray was overly used and that official shoud not be wearing a badge for he lacks skills in De-escalation and Negotiation--he grabbed a weapon before anything else. The entire scene was wrong and obviously out of the officers control--he should loose his badge for causing undue harm due to lack of skill!
when I first read the headline I assumed someone was fighting mickey for their wallet..
I’m saddened to see that he was an ex vet. Did anyone catch the tags, that are also possibly why the pepper spray did not work. People are responsible for their own actions but I really hope he was not a person that this country did not forget about. Still all his fault and I’m making excuses for him just feel bad for the system in general.
Yeah I'd have to say that at 1:42 in the video the guy is no longer violent and get sprayed directly in the eye for no reason. Everything that happened after 1:42 is the guard who is sprayings' fault. The guy had calmed down and there was no reason for it and all it did was keep the incident going. And honestly the only time I see the guy getting violent to begin with is when he's being pepper sprayed. When he's kicking and swinging it's to stop the guy from spraying him in the face. I'd also like to see what started the incident since the video clearly starts after the fact with the guard spraying within 2 seconds of it starting. It also was probably poor judgement to stand around the guy on the ground getting a chuckle out of the situation as two of the kids in usher's uniforms and the 2 skater kids were doing. After the guy was on the ground and no longer combative they should have left him on the ground and waited for police. In fact I have to wonder in the security officer is a retired police officer and wasoverstepping his bounds. I worked in security and we had a few ex-officers who regularly acted like they were still on the force which is a big no-no and usually ends up with a reprimand or being let go. Unarmed Security has no more power than the common citizen. In fact you'll notice near the end the Disney employee trying to block the filming. That's probably because this film is going to be used in the assault cases against the civilians who held this guy down and the employees thast participated. They had no right to lay hands on him unless their life or someone else's life is in imminent danger of ending( at least the classes I had to take said that otherwise you and the company you work for can get sued) and the video does not show that to be the case. You can make a citizens arrest but that doesn't mean you have the right to a citizens takedown.
And yeah Brandon I caught the tags also. nad I'm sorry Leah but swaering doesn't justify a pepper spraying. And being the Happiest Place on Earth means squat. People try to kill themselves there. Why do you think there's no longer a Matterhorn gondola ride? They say stress cracks in the ride but the real reason was the stress cracks riding it.
this is why CIVILIANS are not supposed to handle law enforcement
Yeah because clearly we need non-CIVILIANS like the drunk dipsh!t who started the fight to be wearing badges. I love how military jackasses always stick up for their own when they are clearly the ones with the problems.
I'm sorry but if I'm that guy, I'm not going to submit to anyone other then an authority figure.
Typical jackoff statement from a guy that probably goes to the bar bragging about how he was such a badass in the war and ends his nightly drunken binge by starting a fight and getting his ass handed to him by a CIVILIAN.
The bro's that filmed/helped out are legends.
He was asked multiple times to get on the ground before he was sprayed the second time. For all this security guy knows the drunk was clearing his eyes for another assault.
The video also shows clearly that the guy was throwing punches and kicking prior to being pepper sprayed.
I would have liked to see the start of this incident cause this guy just might have been a diabetic with low blood sugar and needed help. All this guy got was abuse not just from the person spraying him with the pepper spray but the young males (don't want to classified them as men) harrassing him and the loud mouth female with her nightmarish voice. Could this situation been handle different? I could almost guarantee that it could have with a better result.
@brandon lutz I saw the tags as well, but don't go jumping the gun and assume just because the guy was wearing a set of dog tags that he's a vet. do you have any idea how many wannabes and posers there out there. anyone can get a set of dog tags made up for next to nothing. Not to mention they could have belonged to a loved one. I personally wear mine, one that belonged to my brother, and one that belonged to my best friend.
Clearly he was the victim and EVERY other person at the scene were in the wrong. I am sure when his fist went flying at the security guards face it was just because he was reaching for his insulin.
Actually, Some lame name, if you look closely, the drunk was belligerent and 2 seconds into the video he was sprayed when he told the unseen sprayer to ---- off, that is when the 1st punch was thrown. What happened before that?? This guy may be a future owner of Disneyland, I bet the ambulance chasers are swarming him like Africanized honey bees.
Sandtrich, I see you are the same jerk you have always been. There has been nothing racial or ethnic in these comments or thread until you entered. If anyone should be locked away, it should be you, in a padded vault (without the pads).
forced the unruly patron to ride "it's a small world" backwards until he sobered up.
dang that's messed up.
That woman who kept yelling needed a good punch to the mouth. And before anyone starts, I would say the same if it were a man. Jeez, she just wouldn't shut up. I'm not a violent type, but I'd have sprayed her with the pepper spray.
I predict a huge lawsuit and a rich drunk guy.
Would you rather the security guard pull out a gun and start shooting randomly? Pepper spray is the least of this guy's problem. The drunk guy was clearly out of control and I am sure that there is more video that the park took than the visitors video.
It's the mob mentality the people need top be worried about here. The man didn't do anything wrong, but it seemed as though the people were egging the situation on, and the man with the pepper spray needs to be behind bars for assault. Why was he even spraying the man laying on the ground, and the second time, the man was trying to speak and got sprayed in the eyes once again. Then they all jump him to hold him down. Why? He was just standing minding his own business from what I can see in this video, and you can't just pepper spray someone for using foul language as what had happened here since all the others were using it as well cheering this attack upon this one man.
What happened here is wrong and illegal. These young people are azz-wipes imo that egged this on, and the man with the pepper spay was way out of line.
Sue Disney and all these azz-wipes that egged this mob attack against this one man.
The guard has no authority to use any kind of force unless he was DEPUTIZED, and I presume he wasn't. The guard should have been arrested for assault, fired and later sued which I'm sure, rightfully, he and Disney will be.
Yikes, probably an Obama voter?? He really needs another 2 years of unemployment payments..
Sgt Pepper Spray owed this jerk and delivered. I rather enjoy watching a crowd subdue a mentally deranged person who is attacking. This should send a clear message to terrorist that the people will attack like a pack of wild dogs. Oh yeah, get'em.
Why does everyone think pepper spray is such a bad thing. This is whats wrong with america, a guy defending himself uses pepper spray after getting punched in the face and you guys want to put the blame on the guy for using pepper spray. Some of you may not know but pepper spray is easily washed off with water, its only a few moments of discomfort, its not like the guy is scared for life, but i guess its ok to be beaten to a pulp than use the evil pepper spray.
Screw the fat drunk. He got was coming to him. I was surprised that it took so long for the crowd to jump in & hold blubber boy down. If I was there, I would have tackled lard belly when he was holding onto the fence screaming f u. No sympathy at all for tubby.
all three parties are at fault...ok,ranted the guy was drunk, hitting and he hit the guard.... First time he got sprayed idk if it was even nessisary. but the second even third time he got sprayed was assult! the dude is on the ground in fetal position in pain. both of them should be arrested for assult and battery. now the stupid teens that made the video should be in trouble also for puting personal info or what ever and downing the dude. as for the cursing part; im 16 goin on 17 we teenagers curse more than you adults! Lets be real!!! and oh yeah im going to sue you for your security, how poorly the staff handled the situation, and for pain in suffering. It gets real!! Now if a kid my age has more wisdom than all you adults on here then you all need reality check.
The altercation was handled by Guard Trigger Happy in a very unprofessional manner. It's obvious the drunken offender was standing still at times, trying to clear his eyes, when Trigger Happy would just approach and irritate not only the guy's eyes buy also his disposition. Anybody would become upset , if he/she was working on composing themself, and some idiot would continously spray pepper into the eyes. The guard should be fired or assigned to latrine duty in the Park for a couple of years. The drunk could have died of a heart attack or some other medical condition, because of the continuous overdone irritation by the guard. A major lawsuit, no doubt, would have been the result. Disney should learn from this incident, and make sure their personnel are taught how to handle all sorts of incidents properly.
I love all the idiots that post here stating "the security guard should be arrested." Maybe you idiots should try to deal with a drunk that is punching people. The fact of the matter is that the security guard could have used much more force than he did and used restraint when dealing with this idiot. The only way he was stopped was by the two guys who had training in how to restrain him by locking up his upper torso.
I would be willing to bet most that think the guard was wrong are left wing liberals. If you go to the U.S. Supreme court case Graham vs Conner you will see the guard was within his boundaries of force. I know that will hurt some of you liberals but that's the law sweethearts.
after seeing security spay the guy after he had calmed down i assume it started as something small then captain pepper spray went nuclear
Have any of you been pepper sprayed or have any knowledge of the subject matter? On the cans it says "may not work on intoxicated subjects". And it didn't work as he got up and started assaulting again. You can tell the back seat quarterbacking is coming form the land of Rodney King or sometimes referred to as the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.
the drunk fat guy definitely deserved it from what I saw. He was attacking the guard, being beligerant, not listening to direction, and being a general a$$hole all around. He deserved every shot of pepperspray he got... obviously it wasnt all that bad or else he would have followed directions after the first shot. Not a rational thinking human being at that point. I do hope they get better trained security gurds that can keep things from escalating to the point that it did. No comment on the goofballs taking the video lol
Mosin
"I would be willing to bet most that think the guard was wrong are left wing liberals."
Don't pigeon hole people. I'm a left wing liberal who has no problem with how the drunk was handled. I also would be in favor of executing about half of the prisoners in the US. Go figure.
That's because thankfully our American women do not need to fear being beheaded, stoned to death or burned alive for speaking up.
He wasn't punching anyone until the trigger happy wanna be security kept spraying him in the eyes with pepper spray. The man had every right to defend himself from that attack alone.
@Valentine Day Twin, maybe Disney should stop serving alcohol to the people. Where did the man get the booze to get so drunk in the first place. If he was already inside Disneyland, then he purchased the liquor inside the park, because I know that they search all your backpacks and belongings before you even enter the park. For me, Disney is responsible for serving liquor to people so they can get stupidly drunk (as in this case), and then should be sued for the trigger happy pepper spray douche.
Disney will pay for this one, because in the beginning of this video, the man was doing nothing wrong until he was pepper sprayed by the moron working at Disney.
The security guard was clearly identified. The situation was still dangerous to the guard and all bystanders. Guard did everything he should have done, old man is not a cage fighter. Pepper Spray is harmless. I have been sprayed 5 times voluntarily and would gladly do it again to prove it. You are in Disney land and I believe the security has law enforcement capabilities up to deadly force unless trained to do so. Funny video and I see nothing wrong other than the dude getting sprayed. Oh and it the guy above is correct, it does have a reduced effect on the intoxicated. I would have emptied the can.
How security handled the affair is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. The fact that they handled it imperfectly should be extra disincentive to anyone who can't handle their drugs. Look at it as an extra reason to drink responsibly.
I am just so glad to see that there is so many people thinking what I was thinking when I watched this clip. First of all.... The girl mouthing off all kind of crap needed to shut up! The guys that recorded this video seems pretty out there too. The lady yelling there are kids here really aggravated me with that while holding a beer in her hand and the guys near her was cussing too. Then say awh I feel bad for the kids... RIGHT!!!! seems like they are drama inflicted young adults that need to learn to behave as well. The other guy tried to get them to back up and the dud says were just trying to help.... yeah yeah recording and yelling at the dude is not helping anyone but himself! My thoughts about the man... I agree with so many of you! I thought "renta-ride wana-be cop" should have stopped long before he did. I know the guy seemed hazed, and problem was intoxicated but spray one spray and stop!!!! That complicated everything X's 10. Then spray him several more times just be cause he was pumped up on crowd rush trying to be something he is not!!!! People like that really rub me the wrong way. I do agree it is a "kids" theme park they should not sell alcohol there. That is crazy! The ole mighty dollar is more important than keeping this a child-friendly park. Oh and all the other dudes that jumped in on top of him...... hmmmmm should not have gotten involved. IF they were wanting to help everyone should have walked on and left the situation. Yelling, screaming crap, taking pictures, videoing and hovering around like a high school fight did not help the situation at all. Remember the kids are still watching... then parents jump in a involve themselves.... who or what is more important than your family? WALK AWAY
First there is no such thing as an exvet unless he is dead. Second how do you know he is drunk? Has it ever occurred to anybody that he may be having a diabetic reaction because of a drop in his sugar levels. My neighbor had an accident once and the police wanted to arrest her for DWI she was going through a severe reaction due to a drop in her sugar levels the same happened to my father once he got confused and aggressive so be careful about your assumptions.
Obviously we don't know how it all started, or even if there was alcohol involved. What we do know from watching what footage was shown us, is that there was no training involved. There was no attempt from the Security guard or staff to talk to the guy. The security guy was more intent in the opportunity to experiment on the guy with his pepper spray, and the staff just stood there with their fingers up an orafice. The crowd seemed to be only in it for the drama rather than out of concern for anyone. As far as the woman making the comment about Kids being around, she has a legitimate point, but I didn't see any kids, just immature idiots posing for the camera. Watching how the staff behaved and handled themselves, I can only guess that it was the same ineptness that enraged the guy to begin with. The guy was most likely a regular citizen with good intentions, but when faced with people who don't know what in hell they are doing, we can all reach our boiling point quickly. Enough is enough. I too would have swung at Big Buba (Love those homebred Floridians - probably works 2nd shift at the nearby Correctional Institution). I probably would have swung at anyone in arms length at that point, Mickey too!
That stupid broad kept yelling, there are kids here, there are kids here, then why don't you move your little angels away until the guy has been arrested? Also, why the hell do they sell alcohol laced drinks there with kids all around? I normally don't side with drunks, but I hope this guy sues.
I would've jammed that pepper spray can into my ear if I had to listen to that chick any longer...
VT....it was Disneyland....in California. But I think you are right on with the rest.
maybe that chick was his wife, that would make me drink!
Sorry to further my previous comment, I said that "the only thing I saw wrong was the guy getting sprayed" to clarify I mean that the guy was in the wrong and he deserved it, but then I thought, what did he do to get it in the first place? video starts at spraying and we cant really be sure of the circumstances. And as for the Diabetic comment, that is a pretty good point, but usually diabetics cant swing like that and once again, spray is harmless, and pretty much in every state you have to get sprayed to use OC spray. So he is not "experimenting" anyone who has gotten sprayed knows how much it sucks. Usually training for a non-LEO includes not getting involved in a physical altercation and prefers using no lethal force. I am not sure of Disney security training protocol. Another good point listed above is forget the security guard, why is someone getting tore up from the floor up in the first place?
1. The Guard is an idiot. I would of not even bothered to use mace ( 101 mace is not very useful on drunk people). A standard takedown (leg sweep) and submission( reverse wrist-lock) would of work easy enough on that drunk man.
1a. The idiot that said "He's military, because he got back up ( no he's drunk). Let me spray you with the mace I have (designed to knock a bear down) and see if you can kick my ass, I will knock you out.
2. I woulda told that lady to shut the heck up. My ears bleed to her voice.
3. I would of had the bellhops move everyone back and keep the man subdued until police arrived.
4. Basic training can go along ways. This security officer was not trained, thats clear.
5. Disney land has only one security officer?
6. I wish I were in that crowd. I probably would of had that security officers job ( not that I would want it).
Old man looks 50 (but then again so does the visitor) usually they are not very good at leg sweeping. I said before security guards are not cage fighters and its probably WAY above the pay grade!
Cage fighting? I mean that security guard had zero control over anything. I am not sure he's qualified to be a security guard, lets not even talk about cage fighting.
My next rant is where are his fellow officers? Really? Most security guards i know would of been all over that guy like flies on crap.
I would not feel safe bringing my child to Disney World with security like that. Lord knows if a medical emergency happened. Who would they send, the goof troop?
This clip should be renamed to "Too much Pepper Spray". If someone didn't jump in when they did Mr. Bellhop would've emptied the can! LOL
no1 really knows what happen and i thought the lady was telling secuity to stop but it appears to me they all were in a group and teamed up on this guy cuz they have him pinned down with no breathing room. again none of us know what happen but i hope it wasnt one of those big group vs 1 poor man argument. hopefully he did something bad to deserve this but no1 knows besides the ppl that were there.
i say this cuz in my life ive seen big group vs 1 guy arguments and the big group gets the guy in trouble and he didnt do nothing. he was crying. it was depressing to watch. so i hope the same thing didnt happen here in this video.
It's amazing how many douchebags on here are focusing on how much pepper spray was used??? Focus on the part of it being a childrens park, Focus on the guy scaring the crap out of the kids with his drunken rage. His inability to control himself here means he should have kept his mouth shut in the first place and just walked away. Drunk in kids park = going to jail. Sue the pepper spray guy?? Really?? Man you sue happy sissies need to go away.
Hammered in Disneyland and many of you defend him??? Here's a clue, if he wasn't all messed up this would have never happened, he not a victim! All the people walking by with their kids are the victims, what a great memory of a drunken man throwing around cuss words and swinging on people.
I too have issues with the mob mentality (good old security in numbers, ain't that right religious cult members) today - but I'm also one of 161 posters who piled on - go figure...lol.
Disney needs to put up a sign; Stoners Welcome - Drunks Go Away. Going on a ride when drunk should be your first clue that you are not using good judgement. There is enough puke at Theme Parks without self inducing hot heads adding to the spew.
Newsvine needs an option where we can vote to put posts in two categories; one being logical balanced replies, and one for comedic unbalanced relief. I loved the oh so wise 16yo's post - weren't we all so full of wisdom at 16? I'd probably spend most my time in the Comedy pile - but I'd have to be careful not to respond logically and keep from controlling my emotions...hahaha.
I can guarantee that to a person NONE of the above commenters that are defending the ignoramus who was OBVIOUSLY causing the problem has been in a fight with or tried to subdue someone who is much larger than themselves AND drunk. In fact I would bet many of them were part of the OWS crowd. By observing the trouble makers body language it is obvious that, even while on the ground after the first use of the pepper spray, he remained a threat to the security guard and most likely anyone else within his reach. What would you have the security guard do? Wait until the trouble maker, who had already physically assaulted the security guard, got back on his feet and launched another attack? This is a huge problem in the U.S. today... too many people supporting and/or ignoring criminals and their actions. From not enforcing immigration laws- to allowing the illegal tent cities- to allowing someone who does not meet the constitutional requirements to usurp the presidency- to codifying as law the governments right to arrest and indefinitely detain U.S. citizens with no right to due process or even habeas corpus... it is clear that the rule of law is beginning to be broken down. The plan is finally coming to fruition.
Have you ever been in a city full of drunk folks? I live in New Orleans and normally I would go out of my way to avoid drunks (read tourists) who come to town for Mardi Gras/sugar bowl/BCS Championship and act like complete fools. Those events normally bring out the really stupid crowd. I have seen fights break out between drunk folks and I just get out of the way so I am not hit/pulled into it. I don't feel sorry for the idiot who started it. I hope he is banned from Disney for life.
I was surprised by the comments that focused on the woman's voice, it really didn't phase me (but then again I am one) and it seemed fighter guy was actually responding to her and calming down when she cautioned that children were around, until SGT Pepper sprayed him again. I guess if the sound of a woman's voice is foreign to you that her yelling/tone may seem really distinct if your just use to men. Just a tip for those that aren't already self aware; if you are generally so repulsed by the sound of a woman's voice, you might be gay (not that there's anything wrong with that).
I want to punch that woman with the annoying voice!
sandtrich, you are suspended for a week for violating rule # 5 of the Code of Honor.
Voice-of-reason1, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
I am a 46-year old woman, and have worked with a good many people who are raging and out of control due to behavioral and mental illness issues. I've been trained in how to de-escalate people in these circumstances. Watching this video pretty much disgusted me, because nobody was doing anything to defuse the situation, more people who didn't have a clue just kept jumping in with stupid comments, recording people, and repeatedly re-escalating the guy who was the original problem with pepper spray.
Pain compliance isn't really the same thing as de-escalation. That's why only police are supposed to use it. Ever hear of positional or stress-induced asphyxia? All those helpers at the end could've been getting their pants sued off in a wrongful death suit, the park as well.
And it would have taken all my training to restrain myself from telling that stupid woman to shut the hell up. Her shrill bossy voice alone was enough to make me want to hurt somebody.
No shortage of idiots...anywhere.
More people equals more idiots.
Congress is proof that the more people you get together the more intelligence seems to decrease.
Thank you, misanthrope. You do realize, of course, that there is ZERO evidence the world is overpopulated (or anywhere near it), right?
No, you don't...because you're a conspiracy freak.
Overpopulated.
@proindividual- Please state your sources if you are going to claim to know some sort of fact.
Current annual global growth rate = 1.18%
Population in 2080 if current growth rate is maintained = 15 billion
Estimated global carrying capacity if everyone used the same resources as the average US citizen = 1.3 billion Estimated capacity if everyone used the same amount of resources as Indian citizens = 14 billion.
Average amount of land required to support one person = 2.6 gha (global hectares) Total estimated amount of averaged productive land = 11.9 billion gha. Estimated indefinite global carrying capacity = 4.6 billion people
Source = Ewing B., S. Goldfinger, A. Oursler, A. Reed, D. Moore, and M. Wackernagel. 2009. The Ecological Footprint Atlas 2009. Oakland: Global Footprint Network.
There are of course generalizations applied in these numbers, the most important being that it is difficult to determine the global average productivity per hectare, as the total number of 'productive' area changes, and I believe marine productivity was not included in the above study. Some other estimates put the global carrying capacity much higher than 4.6 billion. Also global growth rate is changing, some estimates put the 2080 population at under 10 billion. Also, new methods for making more land/sea area productive cannot be predicted, as well as methods to make current productive land more productive. I am not a doomsday, 1-child per family type person, but it would be foolish to ignore the data available. New technology may provide answers, but it appears that the problem of overpopulation is in fact just around the corner. Disney was right, it has become a small world.
Love your name/avatar! I've often said: the problem isn't that we don't have enough jobs, it's that we have too many people.
I also wonder if ProIndividual understands the definition of the word "exponential"
I am 100% sure this planet is overpopulated right now. How bad is it going to get in the next 10 years or more? Really bad, especially in the ultra high breeding countries.
I get why he was pepper sprayed the first time... but when things had sort of calmed down a bit and the man was just trying to flush out his eyes I think the next couple sprays were a little over the top and unnecessary. I would have been swinging also.
Exactly. The guy was quietly wiping his eyes and it appeared Mr. Pepper Spray waited until he cleaned his eyes so he could blast him again.
LadyJane I agree with you completely.I watched the whole video and I saw Mr.P.Spray repeatedly spraying the poor bastard over and over. You won't see me supporting behavior like that. It's just plain sadistic and small-minded.What in the world is wrong with people like this? How sad.
RE: the three previous comments:
The guy was a drunk who attacked an employee....as you sow, so shall you reap.
spider-737231
Look again, the guy did not attack until he was sprayed. I didn't see it at 1st either. that painted a different picture. Look as soon as the video starts.
We didn't see what started this. You don't know what he did prior the camera being turned on. He must have done something for the security to pull out the mace/pepper spray. I don't know what happened but none of us do either.
The reason is because he was repeatedly being told to stay on the ground, and by the mere fact that he got back up he was being noncompliant. I'm not saying I agree with the second spray (I'm actually ambivalent), but there _was— a reason for it and that reason was noncompliance.
dealing with drunks... the whole crowd gathering around screaming at the drunk not even bothering that the man is spraying pepper spray in his face for no reason. when the man started swingin on the pepper spray captain it was only because the "captain" kept spraying him in the face for absolutely no reason. the man was just standing up with his dignity and yelling at the crowd that were being very immature against him until he started getting sprayed again. and even though that there are kids there i happen to have been on the tower of terror and there are almost no small kids that go on that ride nor the other "big" rides in that area. even though this man was probably drunk i disagree with spraying him over and over again while he is already laying on the ground. i think that people deserve second chances and filming this was not a good idea. it just takes away the good side of that man. he may be violently drunk but that doesnt mean hes always like this and he deserves to say that he made a mistake and not have people post all over the internet about it. people should think about how they would feel if they were in his shoes.
sandtrich, this is what you said (in case you forgot)
Rednecks---what a better world it would be if they kept them properly caged. It's alright to let them out, as long as on a lease and heavily medicated, (not alcohol, with Thorazine.) It kinda tickles me that some people feel that we white folks are a superior race. I assume you mean leash, as letting someone out on a lease makes no sense. From redneck's everywhere, "you, my good man, are a moron." Life is good, go get yourself one.
@ Barry: Noncompliance with whom? The annoying woman in the crowd?
Does this mean you do whatever anyone tells you to do, regardless of who they are?
wow!!! The happiest place on earth allows you to walk around with BEER now!!! Wow!!
Not only that, they have beer carts now in the lines so while you are standing in line for 2 hours waiting to ride a ride, you can grab a beer as you go by the cart! Seriously the smartest business decision a corporation has ever made since grocery stores started putting candy bars at the check out lines. It made the happiest place on Earth even happier... at least for me.
In regards to the drinking comment, you can drink at Califonia Disney! As a season ticket holder for Disney this is rare to have this happen! Sorry to see this....
really? When did they start selling beer "in the parks"? It's always been a VERY strict policy of not selling alcohol in the parks.
You've been able to buy beer in the German village for as long as I remember. I grew up 100 miles outside of Orlando, and we went quite often. My last trip was about 12 years ago, and my then boyfriend and I had beer and a pretzel outside a pub in the village.
And before anyone cracks on my screen name and the "boyfriend" part, I am a girl. :P lol
Back to the story though. I hate when they show "half" of something and we're supposed to piece it together and guess what happened. We don't know if the guy was provoked by that bunch of idiotic teens that were busy throwing their face in the camera or if he threw the first attack.
Could have been the woman with the "grating" voice that started it. Who knows.
Either way, if I'm with my kids in a park like that, I would expect some serious law enforcement around somewhere. These places are PACKED to the borders of their land with people, and it's the perfect place for a seriously dangerous situation. I'm shocked with the money they have, they don't have their own police force. :|
They have two park here in California, Disneyland and California Adventure. They serve beer and wine at the California Adventure park. As for the video, couldn't tell how it started, but he was definitely out of line and the security guy was out of line with the continued use of the pepper spray.
They sell beer in California Adventure, not Disneyland.
C'mon man it's Cali ... if pickle puffers can marry why can't ya have a brew while visiting a imaginary mouse?
@Jamz87ss,
Oh sh!t that's funny !!! LOL
Ummm, Jamz87ss? pickle puffers cannot marry in Cali., and you can have a brew in California Adventure but not the mouse house.
I did the college program at Disney World and we sold beer and wine in the parks. As I recall, though, you couldn't take it out of the restaurants. That was 1997 though, so who knows now.
That's why it is the happiest on earth. Everyone can enjoy themselves (in moderation). If grass was legal they would allow that too, there is probably plenty there it is just behind the bushes with Mickey & Pluto. The concessionaires love people with the munchies.
Keep your eyes peeled, I bet we see much more of this incident in the near future.
@FED-UP I live 10 minutes from the park. I know of dozens of people (yes dozens) who have been busted for weed in the parking lot at Disneyland. In every case, they destroyed the paraphernalia but did not notify the police and did not prevent the people from entering the park. In other words you are correct, they don't care as long as they're not culpable= just keep the evidence off their property. But let's be clear: this man was most definitely under the influence of something other than weed. And yes they sell beer at California Adventure where Tower of Terror is. It is so expensive, though, I don't see how low rent people like this guy could afford to get drunk there. :-P
Who ever is doing the video on this should be taken down to the ground freakin idiot thinks everything is a show if you were really concerned about the safety of others you would not have been laughing about the whole thing. And for all the other hero jerks it took to take this man down really you would have felt like crap if the guy would have died of a heart attack because the guy that has his freakin knee in the guys neck. And the lady yelling SHUT UP already wow I ussually never post anything on these kinds of things but this one really got to me,
As interesting as this "dispute" may be. The only thing I'm getting from this entire thing is annoyance from the woman that keeps shouting the same damn lines. "Somebody help him!" - Well, why didn't you help? "You're in Disneyland!" - No, really? I thought you were in Iceland. "There are kids here!" - I doubt that Disneyland was made for Parents-only.
I know she was trying to get it through the guy's head, but repeating herself so much when he clearly is not listening nor cares and at such a loud volume is just annoying.
If you need beer to enjoy Disneyland, you shouldn't be at Disneyland.
Me, I hate mascots and giant costume characters in general. Even without beer I might get punchy if one got too close to me. So many people employed to play costumed characters just don't know when to back off. That's why you'll never see me at a character theme park or cosplay convention. Or Chuck-E-Cheese. Yeeech.
So cal resident here, and again like I said Disneyland NEVER has sold beer or wine for "walking" around. I have never been to Calif Adventure so I had no idea... seem pretty stupid to me to have people drinking beer adn then going on a roller coaster! Uggg the mess to be cleaned up after someone gets motion sickness.....
Happiest place on earth just becomes a "barf fest". No thanks Disney, I will stay away from your $109.00 entrance fee then to add an additional $15.00 for 1 beer. I will go to a Dodger game if I want to see drunks getting sick.
Selling alcohol at huge events is just stupid. But hey, they love the money they make from selling overpriced beer to drunks. Never mind public safety or human dignity.
Personally I'm tired of tripping over belligerent drunks or dealing with other people's vomit at concerts and festivals, and I'm avoiding those kinds of venues. Had enough of it.
It is hard to say who was really right. By the time we see the beginning of the video, what started the altercation is not clear, and whether the security guard is partially at fault is also not clear. Yes, the guy was drunk, and even swearing, but I would be swearing had some jerkoff sprayed me with pepper spray.
I have to say, the security guard did not make it any better when the guy was sprayed a second time (while he was just standing), when the guy was doing nothing. Just because he wanted the guy to get on the ground, he has no legal authority like a cop. I don't know about you, but had I been sprayed that second time, I would have killed that guard right then given the chance.
So you admit that if you were sprayed and given a command you would commit murder? Looks to me like a cop-killer. Maybe someday a cop will just shoot your ass instead of spraying you.
Sad situation all around.....middle age drunk guy getting pepper sprayed by security while loud annoying woman constantly yells and douchebag white guys cheer everyone on. I think more than one person should have been escorted out of the part...now that would have been EPIC
richard, the dude is a security guard, not a cop...
The pepper spraying guard, he had authority to request that he stayed on the ground, the drunk kept on coming, and swinging, his only defense was the pepper spray. He did the right thing, "you would have come swinging with intent of killing" sorry dude but you should be maced, pepper sprayed, tazered and taken away, it's with imbeciles like you that can transform a peacefule place like Disneyland with children present into a horrifying experience. I'm surprised that the people present did not jump in earlier to help this guard control this situation. We all have an obligation to help this country be a better and safer place to live, after all a group of heros 10 years ago helped save a lot of people, remember Shanksville, PA.?
This was a very poor reaction by Disney to this situation. It is obvious they did not know how to handle the situation. The pepper spray usage was truly excessive. What we do see of the issue shows the employees made it worse and allowed other guests to intervene and the situation became out of control. Disney needs to train their employees on how to handle a drunk guest. I wouldn't be surprised if the disoriented guy also has some other condition that factored in here.
Should people get drunk at Disney...well, no. Disney sells the alcohol and should train it's employees appropriately.
This was a preventable situation.
(and that woman should have just shut up "there are kids here, this is DisneyLand"-not helpful)
Well, the way I see it, you put a camera in front of some people, they can't help but try to act like a monkey for the audience.
Just sayin'
Richard-3533523, your seriously stupid!
OK, I have been drunk before, but not at Disney Land....He might want to party somewhere other than there???
He probably votes too ??? Scary !!
@Richard-3533523, I would defend myself with WHATEVER force necessary to stop an attack against me, including killing the attacker, who in this case in not a cop, and has no rights to tell anyone what to do. It is not murder then, it is called self-defense.
If someone endangers other people, then they have a legal basis to take action, but there was no danger to anyone. He should have called the police, and had the guy arrested for drunk and disorderly.
@Sosadv, NO, the security guard DID NOT have the authority to make him stay on the ground. A security guard has ZERO legal anything. If you think otherwise, please link to a law that proves me wrong. And again, you talk about how the drunk "kept coming"...well, that was because the idiot security guard kept spraying, long after he had to.
@Richard-3533523, One more thing: Every now and then, someone dies when pepper-sprayed, and the idiots in the crowd, who pulled the police maneuver, "we are on you, so now you can't breathe", are lucky they did not accidentally kill him. Who do you think would be going to prison in that case? So again, I would defend myself with whatever force necessary.
actually kevin you are very wrong. Security have the power to defend themselves and others, and to detain on the grounds where their jurisdiction is. Now if that guy had run off the property and security had chased him and then kepy spraying him, then MAYBE he woul be in trouble. Clerly the guy was a threat however and as such Security had full rights to do what he did. You need to be licensed to carry and use pepper spray in cali in a security setting. So kevin shhh you don't know what you are talking about
I will be honest and say that I have not read all of the responces but has it possibly occured to anyone that he may be diabetic? Just asking as the symptoms for low blood sugar is the same as being drunk. I like everyone else have not seen this from the beginning but it is food for thought and don't pre judge what we all don't have the facts for. NOW....as for the pepper spray guy, I agree with most of the other posters on here and that he went over board. One shot was enough!!
This is really sad, not only do we notsee what this man did, we have a "Spray happy" employee and a lot of patrons cussing and laughing. What has happened to our morals, and why do so many think this is ok?
Liam, You are the one, who is dead wrong. The problem with your argument is that the guard was not defending squat. We didn't see the beginning, and why the guy tried to punch the guard, but the guard was the attacker from what I saw. Beyond trying to defend himself from the idiot guard, he was not a threat to anyone, but maybe himself.
It's funny how this phrase applies to so much in the news - "You can't fix stupid".
Yeah--where is Ron White when we really need him?? Then again knowing him that could've been him getting maced, so who knows?
The robo-cop was way out of line in how often he used his pepper spray. I would have went after him too, if he kept doing that to me. And all the people laughing like this was funny...????? What a crazy group.
The robo-cop was way out of line in how often he used his pepper spray. I would have went after him too, if he kept doing that to me. And all the people laughing like this was funny...????? What a crazy group.
The world has more to worry about than this....
Somebody put there foot in that bitches mouth that keeps yelling
greg, whys that Greg? because she was at Disneyland and some lame arse drunk was causing a scene
no, cause she's annoying as hell...
To all you white numb brain's out there! He's using the pepper spray for his own good and the good and safty of the people see how mr tuffy still react's when being peppered sprayed!? Still fighting back like a stupitt bull! While all you white raisen bread's just stood and watch and not helping Mr. pepper spray. That's why other countries think America is the biggest toilet bowl in the world! Cause everyone there is full of crap!!!
doyourhomework ever heard of volume control
Guamboy - your a fricken racist! Now who's the numb brain?
What? Wait..wait....Desert....RACIST? I thought only white people were racist. jk! lol
LOL, Conway... good thing we know the truth, huh? Love your screen name!
LOL Yep! And Thanks, Desert! You're the only one who gets my name. I've been attacked over and over for it. Glad someone besides me has a sense of humor ;)
@Greg,
Probably his wife.??
Amen Greg,
Justice would have been that loudmouth woman getting pepper sprayed. I wonder where this guys friends or family were? If that had been somebody I knew, pepper spray boy wouldn't have even seen me coming. What complete chaos. That is actually a sweet ride though, lol.
Guamboy, you are suspended for a week for violating rules # 1 and # 5 of the Code of Honor.
Maybe the guy is part of the Beagle Boys gang!..Where are the Woodchuck Scouts Huey, Luey, and Duey when you need them?
Carzy screaming lady and crew most likely had something to do with the situation continuing. Just shut up and leave
O no, that would make to much sense..Why sell beer in fairy land??
Funny most of the crowd appears of the jerry Springer trailer trash type themselves
Bogus "security". Disney can't even handle their ESPN staff who allowed a racist headline during a basketball game in China to be aired for 30 minutes.
looks kind of mickey mouse to me
Yes, what a bunch of idiots. The first pepper spray was ok - but he emptied the canister for no reason - I would punch that alleged security officer as well. It was a ridiculous incident. The woman yelling re children being there - is as much an idiot as the rest of them . . . wow unbelievable.
yeah, never been to disneyland, always assumed it was kinda like this, as in not at all what you're being gouged for...
I've only been to Disney World in Orlando, but all the times I have been there I have never seen anything like this happen. It is mostly families with children that go, so I would imagine this is a rare occurrence.
Nothing like criticizing a place you've never been to, or something you know nothing about.
I spent half my life at Disney World in Orlando, and it was ALWAYS a happy place. I have NEVER witnessed jerks acting like neanderthals in the park. And the fact that those young boys couldn't keep their comments and face out of the camera, shows me the REASON this stuff takes place today. No couth.
I don't agree they are what some people call "trailer trash" because I know a lot of people who live in mobile homes (trailers or whatever you want to call them), and they act like normal, hard working, college educated, law abiding citizens, unlike this show of immature attention "hos".
Couldn't help but laugh when the girl kept saying "Sir--you're at Disney World!" I don't think this guy knew what planet he was on, much less that he was at Disney World!!
Clint: They weren't at Disney World.
that lady yelling should be arrested too for sounding so stupid. like yelling "you're at disneyland. what's wrong with you?" is really going to help.
Obviously the guy was drunk and pepper-spraying him in the face for swearing after he started calming down was a pretty stupid move on the guard's part. Though it is understandable, since "there are kids here!"
He did seem drunk. (Honestly wondering why alcohol is even available at a park designed for children, just not an appropriate place for it) Without knowing what all happened can't really know who was at fault from the beginning, but something tells me he probably started it. I agree the guy did go overboard with the pepper spray, but it didn't seem like he really knew what he was doing either. It's sad people will act this way in a place that is there specifically for children/families. Not to mention, the guys filming seemed to have had a few too many as well. All they were doing was egging him on. Disgusting behavior by all.
California Adventure is less a park for children and more for families and adults. It has features specifically for adults, like alcohol. Not everything Disney does is for children. Just check out Downtown Disney.
Never said EVERYTHING Disney does is ONLY for children. Go there, look around...the majority of the people you will see are families WITH children. Disney parks (such as Disney Land in California and Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom in Florida) are amusement parks that where made primarily for families with children. A place like that should use their better judgement and not serve alcohol.
Downtown Disney is a different story, it is mostly designed for adults (high end stores, night clubs and high end restaurants are not places you would take a bunch of small children). Serving alcohol there is one thing. There are areas where minors are not allowed to go to so OBVIOUSLY it's not made just for kids.
If you want to go out drinking...go to a bar...not a place that is frequented by children. When some people drink they get stupid and/or violent (like the guy in the video) That behavior is NOT appropriate for a Disney Park where there are tons of kids around. If you want your kids to witness that behavior, then take them to Vegas.
I guess people everywhere just have got to have their belushing potion, even at Disneyland!
very sad to see . Their was no control are composier from the pedrestrians are the people in the altercations. Due to the by standers the security gaurd shoulkd have remained calm let the man calm down whilke waiting on back up . Then you have people taking law into their own hands , not properly trained . If she was worried about the kids hearing the cussin then she should have tried to keep people back are just left the area of concern with her kids . Instead she has to run her mouth. Remain calm . The security gaurd should be spoken to as well . He did not act in a manner that was safe for the other people . Really
chris, the others jumped in to help the security guard who was knocked down by the drunk, and what would you have done , probably stood there don't want to get involved
I'd have let the guy have at it with the security guard. Blind (literally) rage and drunkenness vs sobriety but with a huge size differential. Someone should've been taking bets...
Why am I not surprised.
The security guard had no control of the situation and CLEARLY did not know how to use his pepper spray or handle this situation. As for the peanut gallery in the backround...have some more drinks ...especially the lady with the irritating voice AND BEER IN HER HAND!!! For those of you who have never been pepper sprayed...IT IS PAINFUL...Im not defending his actions prior to, however there was No need for 3/4 of a can to be sprayed on this individual-who I might add fought for everyones freedom!!! And then to be pounced on by 3 men...REALLY??? TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL!
How do you know this drunk fought for everyone's freedom? Was it mentioned in the article that he was a veteran?
Who was that woman? That shrieking is enough to drive any human being insane. What I want to know, though, is if there were kids there..
I thought it was you Adam
Now that's funny Adam!
I actually heard there were kids there...
Uh Adam, it's Disney Land, probably some kids there...
Where's Mickey Mouse? Happynest world. Not!
This is one of the reason's we don't go to DW. This is just the tip of the iceburg. You have the fats that waddle around and lever themselves into the rides. You can't get around them if you are trying to walk. Then you have all the old people that get in the motorized carts and try to run the kids down if they get in the way by accident. They think they own the road or pavement because they are in a cart but they aren't any more disabled than the average person. Then there are jerks like this. The only way you can handle the situation is by leaving. A guy like this came and stood in front of us at a show when everyone was supposed to be seated. No security to stop him, all you can do is leave as the Yankee jerk would not move.
Wrong park. This was Disneyland, in California.
Its so entertaining to read these posts and have dumb sh@ts stick up for this turd that got pepper sprayed. Yea the security guard pepper sprayed him for no reason at all and that's why he acted that way. These security guards do that all the time at Disney just for fun. Come on use your head folks. My gosh the stupidity level can be high here. The guy was drunk and had already punched another Disney employee when the security guard approached him. In Police levels of force the the punch can be construed as deadly force at times if delivered to the neck or head area. The pepper spray is a much lower use of force in the Force continuum that police use. The sh@tbag went to jail because the Police investigated it independently and found probable cause to believe the sh@tbag committed a criminal offense not the security guard. One other note the security guard was punched several times and had to go to the hospital. The Sh@tbag went to jail and was released on a citation and was not injured. Connect the dots.
I'm sure the same group would be bitching if nothing was done at all and the sh@ibag hurt a child there. Then I could hear them...where was security...why didn't security do something?
Now there's a show worth the ticket price.
the man fighting is one thing but the idiots standing around shouting and making fun of him while videoing this are even worse. americans are so sad.
just wait don..it will get worse...obamanation will destroy this country...you will see fights like this over a loaf of bread let alone over a micky mouse ride...
Have to agree, I can't figure out which is the bigger moron, the idiot fighting or the idiots screaming at him. Honestly that woman just needs to shut up, we get her point it's Disney and there are kids there, she's only helping to exacerbate the situation along with the giggling boys. The Disney workers really don't get this much and I'm sure they responded as quickly as they can but trying to push your way through a crowed who is huddled to see a fight isn't easy.
You wonder what was wrong with they guy (drunk, apparently) and then somebody manages to post an opinion that President Obama is somehow at fault. As for fights over a loaf of bread, the DOW is close to 13,000 now, MarkWS. It was at 8,000 and falling rapidly to 6,900 when we got rid of GWB. Banks had failed in numbers not seen since the Great Depression, and the car manufacturers were close to bankruptcy. Since Obama took over, the market recovered, the banks are stable, and the car manufacturers are profitable. No bread lines. Why are you really unhappy, MarkWS? It can't be the economy.
I'd agree with you except for the last bit about Americans. Bozo's like that exist the world over.
Denny, suggest you take a look at the National Debt Clock.
Agree with you wholeheartedly...especially that annoying skank who won't shut up!
Yea this girl is continuing to scream at this guy and she has to know she is antogonizing him evn further. I would suggest if this woman wants o bad for someone to do something she should stop gawking and do something. Some upstanding citizen she is. She is louder then the entire situation. Also noted that even though this guy was the problem what happened to him before the video. was this young lady runnin her Mouth. I would be pissed to if some rent a cop at disney land sprayed me with thet much pepper spray!
I wish the guy with the pepper spray would have used on the girl commentator and the wanna be comedians.
