One person is dead and four others injured after a vehicle crashed into a KFC in Landover, Md., Monday night.
Rose Smith said she was standing at the next door Citgo Gas Station, and saw a BMW speeding down Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway.
"When it hit the curb it went airborne. And flipped, flipped, flipped, flipped," said Smith.

It flipped into a sign, a fence, a large metal donation box and an SUV parked in the restaurant parking lot. The driver of the impacted SUV was not hurt.
"This is a pretty brutal scene," said Cpl. Evan Baxter of the Prince George's County Police.
Police said the driver was most likely going more than 100 mph. The crash scene was more than 100 yards long.
The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a 29-year-old female, was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Investigators said that a male passenger in the BMW was not seriously injured. Two other people on the scene were hurt, with non-life threatening injuries.
There is also some structural damage to the restaurant, which is located at 6701 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, at the intersection of Sheriff Road. A collapse team was dispatched to stabilize the building and board up the restauarant's windows, which had shattered.
Police said speed was definitely a factor in the crash, and investigators were testing for alcohol on Tuesday morning.

Any news on the ethnicity of the driver?
The driver is officially counted on the census as "Dead."
Ethnicity really is not relevant to this discussion, and your focus on it only shows your racism.
What difference does it make? None as far as I can see
I don't think and ethnic, KFC oriented joke would be appropriate here, do you?
That is a major chicken craving to be going that fast! The driver got what was coming to her. I am glad no one else was seriously injured. Leave the triple digit MPH to the pro's.
My bet is that she was mad at the passenger (probably her boyfriend), and she decided to try to kill him along with herself, and ended up sentencing herself to and carrying out her own death penalty for a murder she tried but failed to commit. If that turns out to be the case, who says Karma's dead?
Your a knucklhead and the driver was a fool. I feel sorry for her parents. A dead child is never a good thing. I hope they don't blame themselves. She was old enough to know better.
GTFOH, spammer!
Bignutterz, I think she's blue now. Smurfican ancestry?
The accident occurred in Prince Georges County, MD!
Why BigNutterzz, do you plan on lynching the driver like a good little bigot?
asking color does not make you a racist....now making assumptions as to why he asked shows ignorance..
Just keep thinnin the herd of the stupid ones!.................
Martin Luther King Hwy and KFC. I think we'll need forensics for ethnicity.
Now you're ignorant of the fact that the question was pointless for any legitimate reason. Was that on purpose?
BigNutterzz - Surely this must be your first time in reading BSNBC articles. They will only specifically identify the race of a person if they are white. They don't want to appear racist by identifying people of other colours/ethnicities.
To the others slamming your for relevance of the ethnicity of the person, it is as relevant as the brand of car. What difference did the fact that it was a BMW make to the article. They included the age of the driver but EXCLUDED the race of the driver and the model of the car. What is wrong with the public knowing whether it was a 3-series or a 5-series and what the model year was.
Some of us might want to use the info for consumer report-type data. If it was a 3-series, one might conclude that the models are prone to crash when driven over 100 mph down city streets. If it was a 5-series, one might deduce that they are prone to eject the drivers when driving 100 mph down city streets. After ejection is when the car crashed because the driver was no longer able to control the car.
A wonder the passenger survived. The ejected driver must not have been wearing his seat belt.
Buckle up, people!
Sherlock Holmes, eh?...........
They were in a hurry for KFC; and ended up eating air bags for dinner.
HE (the driver) was a FEMALE....
Try "her" seatbelt.
That's some serious chicken munchies....have they brought back the Colonel's grey-poupon-black-pepper-marinated-honey-glazed-over-mozzarella chicken or something?
At 100mph+, that could be a good advertisement for BMW.
KFC has really good gravy as weird as that sounds.
I think you are correct that she wasn't wearing a seat belt. I have seen a large number of wrecks in which, if the people involved had their seat belts on would have survived the crash. I have not seen any fatalities due to having a seat belt on. Why in the world was she going 100 mph? No doubt that a BMW is a fine "driving machine" but all of its advances are cancelled out by a "low tech" driver! Very unfortunate for the young woman! Red
Not Sherlock Holmes or "concerned" would have said "...her seat belt."
Fifty years ago playing chicken was a rage, but not with a building.
Sherlock knew as much about 'seat belts' as he did about nuclear reactors, or Tang.
Truly a testament to BMWs safety. Look at that damn car in the picture. I believe a 7 series. The driver, that was ejected and died was obviously not wearing her seat belt. The passenger who was, was not seriously injured!!!
My BMW X5 saved my life once rear-ended at 50mph while I was stopped. An I count on my ///M5 to keep me safe every day. Truly amazing cars.
I agree about the BMW safety. 1 month ago I was rear ended while stopped in my 325i by a guy going 55, pushed into the car in front of me. Poor 325 was ruined, I wasn't.
Very Misleading Heading.. the car did NOT hit a KFC at a 100 MPH, it left the highway at 100MPH... flipped over and rolled several times striking cars and sign posts before coming to a rest BESIDE a KFC Restaurant. SOME damage was caused to the restaurant. The heading makes it sound like it tried to build a drive through.
Looks like they wanted a few rolls with their chicken.
She took "drive thru" way too literally
My bad not catching that the driver was female. Tough crowd today!
Not to worry, pretty sure her parents will find a lawyer to sue the police for causing her to flee, resulting in the untimely death of "perfect" child who's only crime was having an adventurous spirit.
"If only they hadn't chased my baby... I'm sure if she had been given a moment to think it over, she would have turned herself in"....
Then come all the character witnesses: "she healed the sick, raised the dead by laying on of hands - she was a Saint" and walked in grace". So tragic, her life snuffed out before she had a chance to live.
Mom 'n Dad;... Why did you buy her a BMW?
She must have really REALLY wanted some Chicken to try to get there that quickly......
She must have wanted many things really badly, since she was ticketed last month for going 91mph, her license was suspended, and she had expired tags.
Whole bag of crazy.
Guess she took this lesson to the bank!
don't say you're fast food if you're not...
A little more chlorine for the gene pool. Given what I am reading from her record above, 1) thank goodness she was the only one killed and 2) the rest of the folks in that area will be that much safer on the road.
Sorry for all you sympathetic ones out there, but driving stupid sounds like it was COMPLETELY her choice. Given that, my "give a crap" button is a bit rusty...
KFC, it's to die for!!
Word on the street is that they serve killer chicken there.
It never ceases to amaze me how little some people regard their own lives and the lives of others.
People are so stupid.
Why in the heck does that matter BigNutterzz??? How about you simply be sorry for the victims and for whatever caused the driver to be that reckless.
I certainly do NOT feel sorry for these idiots who so carelessly disregard other people's well-being. One less jerk off the road is fine to me. And by the way, no matter what city you're in, if you're on MLK Jr. Hwy, you are most likely in a crappy, gang-infested area. Thank goodness this driver didn't take anyone else out with her.
Not sure I feel sorry for the driver that died. There is no reason to be driving at that speed unless you are on the indy track. Due to her negligence, 3 people are hurt and a restaurant has damages. If she had any money to her name she should be liable to pay for repairs and medical bills.
no reason to be driving that fast. it was kfc.
It's the driver's fault plain and simple.
On a humorous note that may get me into some trouble... I can understand going that fast for, say, a Jack-In-The-Box, or a White Castle, but KFC...? Maybe it's because I'm in Joplin and we have three of 'em.
I can understand heading for the crapper that fast after eating at j in the b
... give 'em 30 minutes, they'll make more ...
Hey, that place is near me. I'm pretty sure I've eaten in that BMW.
What you could've eaten in that BMW is now dead.
Was she just playing chicken? Was she fried?
She lucky her passenger didn't get fire roasted
On second thought. I saw a documentary once where a bmw's gas pedal got stuck down resulting in a crash and some of the passengers were killed. It was proven to be a defect in the car. BMW specifically.
Easy to blame the car, but if that's the case she should have had it fixed last month after she was ticketed for going 91mph in a 55mph zone. She also had a suspended license and expired tags.
It's doubtful that the car was the defective component.
Stick with your original comment.
alright jackass. My second comment was written BEFORE the part about her ticket and suspended lisence was revealed. Don't be so smug. Ugh I can't stand people like you.
The defect is (was) the driver. The defect no longer exists. Buh bye defect!
soo long gene pool.
You mean people that name call and don't wait for more information before making assumptions?
You sneer at others while you make premature statements as to what you think the reason was and then act angered when you are corrected.
You are really out of line.
My comment was also posted before MSNBC added that bit. As I linked above (#3.1), I found it from another source while seeking more details.
chrubble, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
A person with obviously more money than brains. Ya think she might have been texting at that speed?
Driving a BMW does not make you wealthy, it may be 10 years old, with bad tires.
It could have been stolen. I'd look for a crack pipe in the wreckage.
It's PG County, she was probably an illegal.
Mean Girl - Doubtful on the illegal; more likely an outstanding warrant!
In PG county Mean Girl probably a bigot.
She got a ticket a month prior in the same car for speeding.
The value of the car is irrelevant. The fact that it was a BMW is all that needs to be known. The author of the article will let us know what we need to know. The brand but not the model or year is what caused the accident. This would not have happened it it had been any other brand car. <sarc>
If speed weren't a "factor" in the crash, then the vehicle wouldn't have been moving, and an accident would not have occurred. Speed is a factor in EVERY crash. But speed is rarely the primary cause of an accident.
Perhaps her shoe implant, to keep her from leaning left, caused an unusual amount of pressure on the gas pedal?
Once again all you advocates for Alcohol here's another example. And they call cannabis a Narcotic.
This is hardly the forum for your tired weed vs. alcohol argument. I LOVE weed, but I'm glad it's illegal. It keeps the Kooks out.
If weed was involved she would have been going 20 mph.
HAHAHA good one.
Was it a clothes call?
Maybe, maybe not. Clothes were not mentioned in the article.
Ya think?
Driving at ridiculous speeds is asking for trouble. Not wearing your seat belt is asking to get injured/killed. I don't know the exact circumstances, as none of us do, but I'm thinking that the driver made a series of bad decisions, and she paid for them with her life, tragically.
On the side note, if I owned a BMW, considering how expensive they are, I'd probably drive the damned thing 5 under and be paranoid of other drivers. I can't afford to drop $50k+ on a car.
Her death was not tragic. It was well-earned. Please consider that the vehicle may have been stolen or bought with drug money. She was on MLK Jr. Highway, so it's a good chance of either.
Give me a break scooppo. Because she was on the MLK Jr. highway she either stole the BMW or bought it with drug money. Sounds like a typical GOP racist comment to me.
Scoop whats up with your comments about MLK Jr Highway? It's totally uncalled for!
scoopo is probably correct, but that's not PC for Newsvine.
bigpaul-
just because a highway goes through the bad part of town doesn't mean completely innocent, law-abiding citizens aren't also using it. or just crazy people that are passing on through at ridiculously high rates of speed...
I have driven down this very stretch of road before....when you live in Washington, DC long enough, you know what to avoid!
This makes me REALLY want some KFC. Pedal to the metal baby!
Hopefully, she did not have any children, thus proving Darwin's theory once again.
to quote Rocky: "I feel like a Kentucky-Fried Idiot"
She missed the turn in to the drive up window.
Why go the long route when you can just crash through the front door? lol
Some people shouldn't drive anything but crazy cars but even that might be a stretch. At least it won't run on the roadway, hopefully anyway.
You oughta have to show competence to drive - in airplanes, you have to be checked out on the plane and get special tickets for multi-engine, jet etc. Should be the same for driving - you start out with a license that is only good for mopeds, graduate to 500 CC, Harleys, sub compacts, full size, etc. Get a ticket, get busted back a level or two - that MIGHT help some of this insanity. Or not....
Yeah, but mopeds and scooters are super unsafe. You don't want the newer drivers to start with less safe vehicles. Now if they made all new drivers start out with a prius that would be interesting.
They're not unsafe in their own right. They're just not what you want to be riding when the idiot driving 100 mph in the BMW comes your way. Even a KFC isn't particularly safe in that case.
She played chicken...and lost...(bad...I know...)
in seriousness? its her fault, my god, 100mph? Sure a BMW can go that fast, but there is no reason to go that fast. No excuse. i am sorry the gal died but seriously.
Famous last words: "Now watch this!"
This is a generality, but in my opinion BMW drivers are the worst drivers. Lexus, a close second.
"BMW drivers are the worst drivers " what a stupid comment ....
I've been driving them since I was 21 and never had an accident .
Just curious what you're driving , a GM ? Or maybe a KIA ????
Jaga-1147543
Did you miss naptime?
I'm sending a mental hug. Hopefully he will quit acting like such a jaga.
Just a couple of hours ago I observed a BMW doing approx. 70 in a 45 zone. Another made two illegal right turns and didn't signal any of his lane changes. I see this a lot and an inordinate number are BMW drivers. I saw this same observation in an article in Road and Track magazine, so I'm not the only one seeing it.
Gives a new meaning to the phrase "Fast Food".
don't ask for extra gravy...
Once again proving that KFC can leave some horrific skid marks!
