White House staff member suffers hand injury

Updated at 7:25 p.m. ET: WASHINGTON -- A member of the White House household staff suffered injuries to his hand on Tuesday and was taken to by ambulance to a hospital, an administration official said.

The official told NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker that the original report in the Washington Post that the man had "life-threatening injuries" was blown out of proportion.

"There was a minor injury with a member of the residence staff — an ambulance was called out of an abundance of caution," the official said.

The Post updated its story to remove its report of the incident. But the Post's report said that Lon Walls, a D.C. Fire/EMS spokesman, said the man had a “possible amputation of one or two fingers."

Politico reported that the man taken to Washington Hospital Center was a member of the White House household staff who suffered an on-the-job injury.

A hospital spokeswoman told msnbc.com she had no information on the incident.

You would do a greater service if you had more information before you post your stories. Also, why no discussion on what Bill O'reilly said. The man is a raving lunatic.

I agree with the fact Brillo Billo is a lunatic. As to discussing what he said -- why give the moron any attention. It just gives him the feeling he's important when in truth, he's impotent!!

"Minor injury"? For most of us the loss of a couple of fingers would be considered a "major injury"; even life changing!

For example, when Chicago Mayor and former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel -- whom is well known for his prolific use of profanity and profane gestures -- lost half of his middle finger, he was effectively rendered mute!

I know it is hard, but one should know the difference in "whom" and "who" and how to apply it if used in public comments.

O'reilly's comment on Houstons death was insensitive and out of line as were the comments made by Tony Bennett. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.......

Another example of media bait and switch - use the term 'life threatening' in the headline to get people to read, then explain that 'life threatening' wasn't confirmed. Didn't they use to call this yellow journalism? Because it's a cowardly way to draw in readers?

At least they got a story out. Who cares if it is accurate, as long it is first out of the box. Perhaps the story didn't come from Media Matters and the staff forgot how to write one.

Anybody with half a brain could figure out that even if the "amputation of one or two fingers" part is true, it's still not a life-threatening injury.

People all over the country have less than life threatening injuries every day. Some even have life threatening injuries, but NON OF THEM ever get a line on the news, simply because it is NOT NEWS and usually NOBODY'S BUSINESS.
