Subscribe to RSSMIAMI -- Authorities say a man is in critical condition Tuesday after he tried to set his wife on fire, but burned himself instead.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies said that Matthew Wong, 50, chased his newly separated wife of 25 years with two bottles of gasoline.
Wong got the gasoline on himself when he attempted to throw it on her, according to authorities.

Wong's wife took refuge inside of a neighbor’s apartment, but Wong poured the gasoline on the apartment’s entrance, deputies said. When he lit the entryway on fire, the flame engulfed him.
Police say neighbors put the fire out with an extinguisher and a blanket and saved Wong. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital’s Burn Center where he was listed in critical condition.
When police searched Wong’s car, they found that the side and back windows were covered and taped shut with garbage bags and blankets. Authorities also found gasoline, gloves and tape inside the car.
His wife was not injured in the incident.

I don't understand why people go to such lengths to kill their spouse. Whatever happened to good old Guns? This is America, and we settle scores with guns, not gasoline.

After all these weird stories about people hurting, killing there better half's (and children) its refreshing to say the least to hear that one of these nuts got a taste of his own medicine.
I sure hope he makes it out of the hospital so he can then go to prison for what he attempted to do to his ex wife and neighbor.

This man is in store for some SERIOUS PAIN while he recovers, that is IF he recovers. I think he got EXACTLY WHAT HE DESERVED. To try to do such evil on another human being is MONSTROUS. I'm sure the nursing staff will take good care of him, even if they know he is a monster, but I'm sure they are relieved that it isn't his wife who lays in the hospital bed, in pain, and disfigurement.
I'm very happy that the wife is safe, and that the neighbors opened their door for her. Could be that the neighbors knew that this guy was a NUT, and knew they needed to help this woman. If he recovers, I hope he spends lots of time in jail.
Reni, I can assure you that he will be in for more pain than he could ever imagine, especially when the nurse begins to scrub the dead skin off!

I hope she gets protection to - but I wouldn't blame mental illness - this guy knew what he was doing and just epically failed. He belongs in prison.
