STAR, N.C. -- The man suspected of fatally shooting three co-workers and wounding a fourth at a North Carolina lumber company has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Ronald Dean Davis, 50, of Star, N.C., died Saturday morning at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, a day after he shot himself in the head, Montgomery County Sheriff Dempsey Owens said in a news release.
Authorities said Davis walked into McBride Lumber Company on Friday morning and opened fire, killing three and critically wounding one.
He then went home and shot himself. Officers found him slumped on his couch.
Co-workers at McBride Lumber described Davis as disgruntled and mentioned possible harassment by the victims, but the sheriff said the investigation into a motive continues, the Montgomery Herald reported.
He said Davis targeted his victims at the company, where 16 people were working when the shooting occurred.
The Asociated Press, Reuters and msnbc.com staff contributed to this story.

It's always a disgruntled employee who pulls this kind of thing. I'm going to be sure to surround myself with only gruntled co-workers.
the way people treat each other, especially at work, it's amazing more of this sh!t doesn't happen...lucky most are becoming drugged or zomboid to cope...
That's why it's important to be friendly with everyone and treat your coworkers with respect. And be alert, because we need more lerts.
hahaa I got it.
I pray the Most High receives and bless these souls.
So when do we get to mentally test these responsible gun owners who brag how stable their brethren are? They rant about how everyone is out to get them, then say they are the sane ones...ugh!
Sal; if you ever met a lert, you wouldn't want more of them. Tribbles are even better than lerts.
Generally speaking? Grade school. Anyone with a public education at one point or another was provided a psychological profile exam, usually in the 2nd grade. This is the same test that determines potential learning disabilities or abilities (i.e. remedial vs gifted classes). That doesn't, unfortunately, assess the potential for psychosis that develops later, like schizophrenia, or due to life stress. Then, of course, you have some people that are just a**holes.
There are two option
1. "If evvery employee was armed, only one would of been killed." -- "responsible" gun-nut
2. Sane gun control, which the SC held in "Heller" is Constitional.
And a third, for those "responsible" gun-nuts who are "only" borderline-criminal:
US Con., Art. I., S. 15. The Congress (NOT gun-nuts) shall have Power To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute (enforce) the Laws of the Union, (and) suppress Insurrections.
here we go with gun law debates. people just dont understand the concept of guns are good and dont shoot anyone. people do. a vehicles can be considered a weopon, think we will get rid of them? a bat, a knife, a stick, a rock? guns are good protection from nut jobs....
Disgruntled employee... Lemme guess... white guy, right? I knew it.
Do a comprehensive psych test on all gun license applicants -- NO EXCEPTIONS. Anybody owning a gun of any sort without a license -- prison time and take away their Elmer Fudd Gear. I have a feeling this solution / comment will anger a lot of 'merkins. So be it.

Your point is?
They should make it a requirement to go through some psychological testing before being able to get a gun permit. It would provide tracking (if enforced) and a possible way to prevent this sort of thing. Then the law-abiding gun holders would still be able to defend themselves and the nuts won't be allowed to get the guns.
how about all you ignorant anti-gun people go ahead and write 'slave' on your forehead. you do understand that we are a free people and that it is not the authority of any government to tell us how we can protect ourselves and hunt for food. you do not own me, you do not have any say in what i do as long as what i do does not cause harm to others. if we are told how to live, what to think, what to buy, what to sell, what to wear, what to eat, what to own, what to.......etc, then we are not free. this is my body, my mind, my life and i will do as i wish and if i make mistakes i will gladly pay the consequences. that is life.
You must be male because females do not own there own bodies i.e. reproductive organs

A really smart Psychopath would pass the test with lies.
blah blah blah... only comment worth a sh-t was the "gruntled" one, which actually was funny.
Good call, Chris fro Yucaipa-it Was a funny comment. Swagganaut, I agree with you, too. All the anti-gun rhetoric here is by those who have their heads in the sand and think, erroneously, that Guns are the problem. If someone wants to kill someone else and there is not a gun around, they WILL find ANOTHER WAY. And, someone said here that cars kill people, knives kill people, baseball bats kill people, rocks kill people. Why don't we just make all Those items illegal, too?? Get a clue, people-PEOPLE kill PEOPLE! NONE of those things, including guns, kill people! But, of course, that is too simple a concept for the anti-gun crowd to understand. There are Over 80 MILLION gun owners in this country (thousands of them new since Obumba took office!). Now just what do you suppose the percentage is of those who commit crimes with guns is? Hmmmm?? Let's see, one or two whack jobs a year out of 80 MILLION. Even the misinformed anti gun crowd can count that percentage on one hand-and still have 4 1/2 fingers left over! And for you anti gun zealots-keep in mind that it just might be ofe of us 80 MILLION gun owners that saves your life one day, or the life of a loved one.
Have a nice day.
@dancingspiderman
You claim it is always a white guy but the Virginia tech shooter wasn't white, he was Asian nor was that guy a couple months ago who shot up his work place I believe in California. He was a black guy, or the Fort Hood shooter, he was an Arab. The guy who shot a white guy in San Clemente last night was a latino.
I think dancingspiderman is nothing more than a racist to come to an immediate conclusion without any details in the story.
I was wondering the other day if I am safe at my job. Alot of people there are disgruntled.
Then m8be u should b swing'n on that pole a lil higher SonFloWeR 2 get that $!!
WMG-21--
everyone is psychologically tested in grade school??? NOT. believe me, as the parent of a young adult who DID have psychiatric problems in early childhood (and has no interest in guns btw) as well as member of state/local gov councils on mental health I would know. there are sometimes local or state efforts to conduct depression screening but by no means universal and by no means a "profile". further, federal law (Hatch Amendment, I think) gives every parent the power to opt out of any such assessment.
anyway, plenty of mental disorders (schizophrenia) emerge later, personality disorders can only be diagnosed in adults, and head injuries can happen any time
I'm surprised that CEOs who are making upwards of $48,000 per hour and are treating their workers like garbage aren't shot.
Disclaimer... I don't believe in any kind of violence.
Zarkovski, While visiting the Ozarks back in 1991, I caught a small lizard and took him home as a pet. He lived about 4 years on purchased crickets from a pet store. I named him Zark!
The government is behind this disgruntled work stuff. It's job creation. Shoval ready.
I am for all the right to own a gun. But then we all should be able to grow our own medicine too. But hey you folks probably think that that kills too. ITs just the ingnorance from so many of you. This case is just another proven gun story that fails you. Look....if he didnt have a gun that particular day, I highly doubt he could have killed all of them with a bat, or knife. The point is is that guns are still made for one reason and that is to kill. You guys cant argue that fact!!!! If he had a knife that day im pretty sure I would have laughed at him becaue unlike a gun used in mass killings. It dont work with a knife and at least would have had a fighting chance. The school killings, the killings in Tuscon and the state rep sure wouldnt have a fighting chance. So your @!$%#ing lame azz arguement that they would kill w' knives, cars, etc. is getting old. it doesnt suffice..ask the victims
Maybe it would help or change some of your veiws if you knew that the 3 killed were Mexicans that had been giving this guy Davis a hard time.. kind of changes things alittle
Doesnt matter who they were. I have been a victim of abuse by others since childhood, because Ive always been overweight. And I own guns, and enjoy them as sporting items, and keep them in case self protection is ever needed.
But I dont get it in my mind to shoot anyone because they give me a hard time. As a matter of fact, I showed them all up by becoming a successful business person and having a good life. Bullying will go on no matter what, its how you react to it that matters.I find society and particularly parental upbringing at fault because we always defer to violence as a solution. It is in our entertainment, everywhere. Violence is a last ditch effort at self protection where everything including diplomacy fails, and only if you are in the right. Thats it. Everyone forgets that simple rule.
good enough shot to kill 3 others but couldn't even hit a point blank target
Don't know why these people don't just check in to their local regruntlement center instead of pulling a stunt like this.
@jon,
The point is is that guns are still made for one reason and that is to kill. You guys cant argue that fact!!!!
Uh, target practice? Hunting for sustenance? Your viewpoint seems too narrow-minded.
If he had a knife that day im pretty sure I would have laughed at him becaue unlike a gun used in mass killings. It dont work with a knife and at least would have had a fighting chance.
Sounds like some good bravado on your part. Ever been attacked by a knife wielding assailant? I have. There was no laughing going on. And thats including my 15+ yrs of martial arts training/instruction. As I explain to all of my students regarding a blade assault: Expect to be cut. But just make sure your adversary is worse off than you are when all is said and done. But you'd just 'laugh' if someone was attacking you with a knife, correct? I don't think you'd stand a chance....and end up being another statistic. Unless someone came to your assisstance with, perhaps, a gun. Hmmmm.
Yee HAH ! I was correct. The facts are irreputable . Everything that comes from anyone as a reply is merely a "blah-blah-blah" crybaby-fest, so... do not call yerself out.
rudeboi - Is Most High different than just being a Little High?

Yeah, I've also seen those T-shirts of Jesus smoking a joint. The T-shirt was made of Hemp.
This case is about tolerance. Then I see the gun nuts collapsed all the anti gun posts...intolerance. You just made me think you just might be the next intolerant gun owner to go shoot up the work place.
Just an observation...lol.
Obviously your drain has been bramaged. You worry too much. Take a chill pill..............
Good thing he didn't use a knife or things could have been far worse.
What! That makes no sense
it's just those fast traveling bullets
Fristy, you gotta catch up, it's a running joke between the sane and the "you gunna have to pry my gun from my dead hand" radicals.
I'd rather see basball bats used; then, between the killings, the murderers could engage in a friendly rivalry.
Ban handguns.
I don't understand this gun control mentality, ban lumber yards and there will never be another shooting at a lumber yard ever, problem solved!!
only the people that like to be ruled over and told what to do in every aspect of life want gun control.
I believe 2 or 3 of the victims were shot with a 12 guage shotgun so banning handguns doesn't apply here.
About the lerts, whether or not we need them depends upon whether or not they have stars upon thars.
To all that harrass workers, beware, you could be next !
Yes, you can run from a knife, but you cannot run from bullets .. Here we go progun idiots.
You claim to not even live in the States.
Please stay where you are and enjoy whatever it is you do there.
Just leave us alone.
Thanks in advance.
many times harasser don't even think their harassing anyone . one guy at my job would spred rumor like hell to get other workers to harass a person so he wont get blamed .
Pro gun, but not an idiot. Idiots try and blame their troubles on things. Guessing you fall in that category.
I'm faster than a speeding bullet
I hope you never have to PROVE that. o_o

_____
So tell us, non-"idiot": where did you get your education in logic?
Guns have no other purpose than to kill. That unavoidably means that guns kill.
Recently there was a news report of a man who went for a haircut. His gun fell out of its holster, hit the floor, and shot the barber.
And that is not the first time such a scenario occurred.
By contrast with your assertion of the NRA's false propaganda, the RESPONSIBLE do not spread self-serving lies or half-truths. Especailly when the consequences are deadly.
JNagarya,
Please post the source for your "news report of a man who went for a haircut".. and your additional assertion that "is not the first time such a scenario occurred".
Failing that, I would submit that you are spewing the "false propaganda" of Handgun Control, Inc.
I've tried this before, but, what the hell:
Tell that to the US Olympic Marksman Team.

Idiots are the ones that think Police are going to get to the scene fast enough to save your ass!
Right on timlmilliois,
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away
I'd hate to point out the obvious, but yes, while guns have the capacity to kill...a gun sitting alone will not do so by itself. It takes a person, whether it be an idiot or a person actually capable in gun handling to use the tool. That's all it is. Yes it will kill. It will be used to kill animals for food, it will be used to defend people from home invaders, it will be used to protect others from dangerous situations. Flip side is, it will be used help home invaders against defenseless victims, it will be used to kill for sport, it will be used to cause dangerous situations. But it's the person wielding the tool that decides its purpose.
Outlawing guns will just give those that don't care for the law to begin with the ability to have a free reign on those that don't have the means to protect themselves anymore. We all know how crooks 'love' to follow the law. The police can't and won't always get there on time, while it is ideal that they deal with the situation it isn't something to count on. I will not be a victim, nor will I allow my family to be a victim if I can help it, and nothing helps it like looking down the barrel of a shotgun pointed at a burglar.
I would also like a link to that article about a man who accidentally shot his barber, because so far the only article I can find about a barber being killed was actually this:
http://www.ekantipur.com/2011/12/07/mixed-bag/barber-killed-over-haircut-brother-kills-suspect/345108.html
And that guy was stabbed.
Lyrica, I hate to spoil the party, but a few years ago while visiting a gun range, I saw a handgun actually get up all by itself and it started hopping around really crazy too! What really scared me was when it grabbed a magazine full of bullets and inserted itself into the gun and started shooting all over the place! Luckily no one was hurt or killed! I cringed so hard while that was happening I had to visit a chiropractor the next day to get uncringed!
Of course guns are made to kill, that is their job. Hammers are made to drive nails but I have never showed up on a jobsite and seen a hammer framing a wall by itself. These kind of things will never stop happening regardless of whether the government criminalizes gun ownership. One need look no further than our Southern border to see that. It is illegal to own a gun in Mexico and yet it is the murder capital of the world.
Obey, lol sounds like a really messed up Disney movie.
Americans need to learn to be nice to your co-workers. Corporations need to promote treating everyone with respect and actually putting action behind the words. If companies continue to disrespect employees and humiliate them and fire them without real cause other than the fact that egomaniacal manager does not like the employee, then the killings in the workplace will continue. Most companies have just hired security and installed badge systems, but they do not know how easy it is to get through them. It is not safe and will never be safe at work until people start treating others with respect and dignity. I worked at GE Financial Assurance and an employee came into work one day and told everyone that he thought of bringing his gun to work and taking it into our bosses office and saying to her "@!$%# with me now." People hated her so much that no one said anything to managementor HR. They just told the guy to let them know they day so that they can hide under their desk or stay home. These arrogant company leaders do not understand or care about the cause of workplace violence. So in the end, they will get what they deserve, I guess.
No one deserves to be murdered by a raving lunatic! Applying any kind of twisted logic to these nut jobs will only give the next one rationale for doing it.
It's true though. People that already feel trapped in dead end jobs, and are now looking at the fact that social security is so depleted that they will NEVER be able to retire.... it's getting harder to go to these jobs and face harassment on a daily basis. A perfectly normal person who faces these daily trials could become increasingly depressed. What's "FUN" for some can , in fact, be a hardship to others. Please be HUMANE to coworkers. Enough is enough. When it comes to ribbing and razzing a little bit can go a LONG way.
I don't condone what he did, but, it's obvious by his suicide, that his depression was the main reason he did this. A person that feels justified by his actions wouldn't just kill himself. This man had nothing else to live for in his own mind.
Sometimes its the shooter, that is the victim. I'm not saying this guy had any rights to do what he did but, I have worked places where I couldn't wait to leave. There are companies that want a disturbance among their employees so they get the scoop from both sides and they don't even leave their desk. The article states a possible harrassment of the shooter. Workers think they're going to get ahead with the company if they snitch on the other employees. Thats how a lot of this ends up happening. I seen it happening and I was smart enough to get a different job. Screw working at those kind of places. I love how a supervisor will tell you, that telling him about other employees would help him to better place all of them and everyones happy like that, lol yeah right. I would have this company checked out real well before I'd dismiss charges against them too. Mind your own business at work and usually you don't have problems.
Work place stress can be fatal. I know, because the stress at my former work place put me in an ambulance, with a heart that was trying to shut down. In most states, you need to be fired to get unemployment, which leaves many with no option but to stick it out, hoping something better comes along. The mind can only handle so much abuse. I tried one more day at work, after recovering, but determined it was my last at that place. I am now the person in charge of a department at another location. Resorting to violence is not acceptable, but sometimes the shooter is, like Joe-1072601 says, the first victim.
Annie - comment 4.1 - you need to get out more. There ARE some people who deserve to be murdered by a raving lunatic - not many, but they are out there.
Spankee - stupid response#24.5-first, I get out plenty and I see a lot despite that, I stand behind what I said. Who decides who is deserving of such a fate? You! God forbid! You better be careful what you support someone may target you for own brand of lunacy.
Okay, Annie - have you ever worked with someone who gets his kicks out of using kittens, on farms, for target practice? Someone who aims his car at ducks, with ducklings, while they're crossing the road? Someone who robs helpless old people? Someone who molests children?
Speaking of stupid responses . . . . .
Everyone keeps saying "be kind to coworkers". If people would just be kind to EVERYONE, then coworkers would be included, and so would your neighbors, and people at the grocery store and out on the highways driving around at the same time you are.
It's becoming increasingly scarey just to be alive these days. (and alive is what I want to stay!)
Socials security is not depleted. It is not going broke. It does not need to be "fixed". The social security budget is seaparete and stand-alone. The deficit is in the actual budget.
TYou are repeating lies told by the enemies of social security who want to eliminate social security.
spankee
"Okay, Annie - have you ever worked with someone who gets his kicks out of using kittens, on farms, for target practice? Someone who aims his car at ducks, with ducklings, while they're crossing the road? Someone who robs helpless old people? Someone who molests children?"
okay now here is the real problem. if you know a coworker(s) who robs old people and molests children (felonies) and you complain to the internet then you are the part of the problem. the killing animals for fun might be sick and if someones pet, criminal but other than that animals are not humans and should never be equated as the same legally and if u want to kill someone over them killing an animal not yours then you are again part of the problem and should seek psychiatric help.
never a reason to kill someone in cold blood and to make an excuse for it portrays a mental disorder.
JNagarya, its been known for decades that the "lock-box" of SS funds has been emptied. the politicians themselves have admitted this several times on both sides. the whole idea that somehow the federal government would set SS taxes aside and not spend it is ludicrous at best. they started spending the money almost immediately, hell they had plans for it long before the funds started coming in. all SS was is a slush fund for the government on the backs of the american worker and is used as a tool to garner power. why do you trust the government so easily?
And let the political comments commence!
Why don't these idiots just shoot themselves first? My condolences to the families of the three people who died.
I'm guessing he was probably pissed off about something. I Was wondering why he didn't reach out to someone to help him with his obvious mental instability and anger issues. MY condolences to the families of the FOUR people that died.
He was pissed off about something? You think!? My condolences are for the THREE people who died not the idiot who killed himself.
Oh. It was a rhetorical question.
My prayers go out to the families of the victims. As for the shooter, I agree with the others why did he just not shoot himself. When these losers pull this stuff and die, good riddence no wasted dollars on a trial they do not deserve.
Annie,
My condolences to the families of the four people who died, too. This man killed three people and critically wounded one - are you saying that if he had a small child, you wouldn't feel sorry that the small child now had to live without his father and instead WOULD have to live with the knowledge of what his father did?
Even without small children (or any children) involved, I feel bad for the shooters family - they had no say in what he did and they do, in fact, deserve all sympathy. They lost a loved one, too.
Maybe we should all be nice to others at work. Seems every time this happens the killer is not too happy with the ones killed. Lets face it, the locker room ended at either high school or college. The locker room highschool mentality needs to end there. Alpha males be warned!
wish these people would use a slingshot or a bow, or anything but a damn gun. I like my guns, I like shooting holes through paper targets.
To the disgruntled: Memo: Next time use a very short dull paring knife.
I used to go to worked disgruntled. I got along a lot better being just gruntled like every one else.
Any other lethal weapon (knife, bat, club, rock, axe) would not have been as lethal on as many people. When will we wise up and see that people with guns are dangerous. Period. Obviously, there was a problem at this workplace but if he had to settle the problem without the use of a gun, perhaps it could have had a better outcome. And, for those of you who will say that, "Only the criminals or people with mental health problems will have guns," to you, I have to say that all that gun possession in the world did not save these people.
I must be dangerous then. I can't fathom how I haven't killed anyone in my lifetime of gun ownership? You assume I'm doomed to just snap. Your broad based comments are ridiculous.
Yes, I agree that firearm possession didn't save these people.
However, had it happened where I'm employed, the outcome would have been different. There are a number of us who are licensed carry permit holders and we would have intervened. Although even former disgruntled employees have never come back to do carnage. Possibly because they know we have the ability to defend ourselves?
Obviously none of us here know all the pertinent facts surrounding this incident. Was he problematic during working hours? Was he on any kind of medication? Did he acquire the firearm legally? Did he HAVE a prior police record that would have precluded him from owning a firearm? There are a number of questions that no-one here has the answer to. Anything we say is pure speculation at best.
The only fortunate thing to come out of this is that at least we won't have the expense of a trial, or incarceration if and when he was found guilty.
The best result would have been for him to seek help with his issues BEFORE he went on a rampage. Failing that, it would have been best if he had just gone off into the sunset and wasted himself without involving others.
i am a gun owner and Ted Kennedy killed more people with his car than I have with my guns.
Common.... shhhhhhhh.... you're not supposed to tell people that. The Kennedy clan are all lily white pristine upright citizens after-all...... aren't they???? (ok.. sarcasm turned off!)
@harborlight:
Hmm... well, it sure seemed to help this 18 y/o mother:
http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/04/9948522-911-to-teen-mom-who-killed-intruder-protect-your-baby
No sh*t Sherlock. That's why there's gun safety courses, warnings all over the manual, all over the box of bullets and on every gun information source out there. It doesn't matter that guns are dangerous-- what matters is who they are a danger to-- like, say, that home invader who's now pushing daisies thanks to a quick thinking, brave new mother from the article above.
baracalypse, I hate to spoil the party, but a few years ago while visiting a gun range, I saw a handgun actually get up all by itself and it started hopping around really crazy too! What really scared me was when it grabbed a magazine full of bullets and inserted itself into the gun and started shooting all over the place! Luckily no one was hurt or killed! uncringed. LOL.
Let us take away the ability of the law abiding citizen to defend him/herself in a time of crises.
Of course, all those NOT law-abiding citizens who own guns illegally now will still have 'em, but hey - they never shoot people, right?
No armed robberies, no armed rapes, no murders involving a gun, no nothin' by the criminals who own weapons. They just want peace and the ability to earn a wage (even if it means taking it by force from a person who rightfully earned it).
Every sect has their own nutsos. Us Christians have those nutsos who think that the soldiers who die fighting for America are dead because God doesn't like homosexuals, the Muslims have those nutsos who board planes and take 'em over or blow 'em up, Catholics have those nutso priests who molets little children, Jews have those nutsos who beat women up/rape them if the women are not wearing what is deemed appropriate, Amish have those nutsos who cut off eachothers beards...
We've all got our own fair share of nutsos. It is impossible to weed 'em all out - you'd have to be checking for 'em all the time because mental diseases aren't there from birth, your social and financial circumstances are always changing, and no one is immune to job loss.
You cannot put a blanket statement like, "People with guns are dangerous. Period." on one group of people. That'd be like saying, "People who are Christian are homophobes. Period." "People who are white are racist. Period." It just doesn't hold up under scrutiny.
and this is why I have a concealed weapons carry permit. Somebody starts to shoot around me and it is bang, bang.
Absolutely.
Or you are the first one he takes out.
He has x-ray vision? He knows that Scott has a concealed weapon? That is some trick, Scalzo. I didn't know there were super-criminals out there...
Commonsense et al: The Kennedy brothers are all gone. Leave them to heaven!
i carry and have diffrent weapons of choice. being a rational human being i don't forsee myself at any time in my lifetime snapping and going on a shooting spree. this happening is so minimal. more people die in different types of home accidents than this type of goings on. the anti gun crowd needs to bone up on the constitution and the second ammendment. criminals will get guns no matter how many gun laws are enforced. use a few sensible laws that are on the books and elimanate the remaining.
Give me a break. You are being presumptuous to believe they are in heaven. They were the most immoral people we had in our Political society. Money doesn't make the man, morals do.
you got that right. the whole family is evil.
On a positive note he died, so we won't have to pay for a trial and years of prison expenses.
Ted Kennedy always preferred drowning them to guns.
Laura Bush used a car to kill off her boyfriends too.
OJ used a serrated edge knife to kill!
opens up some new jobs for Obuma to count
No, I'm pretty sure this was just Bain Capital doing some downsizing in order to maximize their take.
Sorry to the families that lost their loved ones.
You can always blame this sort of thing on weapons or the people who harassed this individual. Most of the time its not even the people that do the harassing that get killed. Anybody who does something like this is mentally unstable at the time of the incident so no measure of security or gun laws would protect this from happening. I work in a construction type setting and I get harassed everyday at work but I chose not to take offense to it. We all pick on each other. If you can't handle it bring it to the courts or find a different job. This guy was probably a normal person and got pushed a little too far but please don't kill anyone.
matt i need a job been in construction for 30 years and can't find a job can you help? superintendent o sorry about the people that got killed.
It's very sad that violence in the workplace still continues and leaving families without a loved one. Bullying behavior at school will continue to adulthood at the work place if not stopped. So will the bullied if therapy not received when they were young, they will carry their feelings into adulthood and this is what happens in the workplace or anywhere they feel bullied again. The disgruntled will take care of his victims either with a gun or a dull knife. They will find a way. It happens that a gun is the easiest way out for him after the act. Can't do that with a dull knife. Management needs to know everyone of their employees and how they feel about their co-workers and supervisors. Most of these incidences are avoidable.
Oh please... stop giving excuses for people.
I WAS bullied as a kid. As a kid I turned that around myself by making a decision to NOT accept the situation. I fought back, (yeah I know, it's not nice to fight.. it's better to hide behind someone else.) and ultimately not only did the bullying stop, but others that WERE being bullied came to me for defense. Once the "bullies" realized there was someone willing to stand up to them surprise, surprise, they stopped the bullying completely. It wasn't fun anymore because there was someone willing to put a hurt to THEIR asses for a change.
Of course that's not the politically correct thing to do today. Everyone is expected play nice. Sorry, that's NOT reality. The bullies learn they get away with it because no-one will face them, and the most they'll get is "detention" or maybe transferred to another school. Kick their ass and they'll get the message real quick not to mess around anymore.
I work with a woman that does not think that being nasty to people is wrong. She will berate people in front of the office staff, call people names, she even grabbed someone once. And she is not even the boss, she is an AA. I used to tell one fellow that worked with us, that when he decided that he could not take her anymore, to please let me know what day he intended to take care of her and I would stay home!!
This guy ( the one in the story)had some serious issues, and all of the take away his guns rigamarole was not going to stop him. He probably had the gun before this happened and when he snapped it was the first thing he reached for.
As for the concealed to carry folk. Good for you and I am glad that you have that right and feeling of security. One question though? Where do you keep your guns at work? Is it on your person or in your desk? How fast could you have gotten to it had this happened in your workplace? I am not denigrating you, I am just curious and would really like to know.
Wife of a multi gun owner.
Tired... that is entirely predicated on the work place. In my situation, we are allowed to carry on our person, fortunately. A carry permit doesn't do one much good if they're required to keep it locked in the car during work, which the President of our company realizes.
All we do is ask that permit holders identify themselves when hired, or when they get their permit. We also ask clients that carry to "declare" their firearm when entering the premises. Of course, we don't know about unlicensed firearms, customer or employee, but have NEVER had any incident.
Oh, by the way. It is noted on the door entering the premises that there ARE carry permit holders on the premises. That I'll assume works as a very good deterrent also!!
Also, we all go to the range fairly regularly. Sometimes as a group, or individually. So yes, we all trust each other and our abilities.
Thus you can stop a threat if one arises, something these "ban all guns" people don't understand. They think if a gun ban law is passed that all the guns in the country will just magically disappear. And do you think the criminals will turn in their guns? If you do maybe you should shoot you're self in the head now so some low life thug can save a bullet or 2 when they go to town on this country's disarmed citizens.
most criminals steal their guns from house's, guns are made for one purpose, to kill animals & people 9 out of 10 times a gun is used for what it is intended for & that's the problem - this person probably had his gun before he had his episode the other problem is that guns don't stop bullets having one does not make you safer you would have to have it in your hand safety off ready to go 24 /7 the criminals have their guns ready to go & will not wait for you to get your gun out of the safe
Actually that's not true. Most people who use a firearm illegally tend to not know much about target acquisition and shoot erratically and randomly. Yes, often with lethal results, but that doesn't eliminate their poor skills.
A licensed carry permit holder generally practices, not just targeting skills, but drawing from the holster skills as well. Not all, but many of us who do carry legally, are well equipped to engage and stop threats, even those with firearms already out. It is NOT something we hope to do. To be candid, we practice with the hope that we will NEVER need the skills. But in the event that we are required to defend oursleves or others, the vast majority of us are ready to accept that responsibility. Be glad there are people like us willing to step in when the police aren't available.
There is the adage: When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. It is unfortunately, very true.
John,
I hate to spoil the party, but a few years ago while visiting a gun range, I saw a handgun actually get up all by itself and it started hopping around really crazy too! What really scared me was when it grabbed a magazine full of bullets and inserted itself into the gun and started shooting all over the place! Luckily no one was hurt or killed! I cringed so hard while that was happening I had to visit a chiropractor the next day to get uncringed!...
Re-evolution... hand guns with a manual saftey are liabilities... my hand gun's saftey is off just by grabbing it :) and it is also never in a safe, it is always on my person :D
So the guy that takes his gun to work and he thinks no one can harm him, remember the crazy or the shooter probably won't give you the chance to pull your gun or let you go to your locker to get it. Saying it is better to get help or talk it out, then be the one to bring guns to work, sounds like a confused person to me. A work place is not wild west, it would be better to beat the heck out of each other but at least you still go home to see your loved ones.
Wade... if you're referring to my earlier post, I NEVER said no one can harm me. Are YOU insinuating I did?
And no, I'm hardly confused... maybe you are. I indicated that he should have spoken with someone BEFORE he got to the point he did. Failing that he should have wasted himself alone and not involved others.
And no, the work place is not the wild west. But when bad things happen, I would prefer to be in a position to protect myself, friends and co-workers than pleading on the phone to 911 to get the police to respond AFTER THE FACT.
not many employers would want employees bringing their guns to work. can you imagine the worker's comp costs????
Its better to have your gun and not need it then to need your gun and not have it...
Sounds like a workplace Columbine, I guess you reap what you sow.
My neighbors got their kid a puppy, sweet little dog, all tail waggly and face licky, but their demonic kid liked to shoot it with his BB gun and hit it with his tee ball bat.. that dog ended up biting the little monster on the face, kid required close to 200 stitches and will be scared for life, and no one could figure out how such a nice puppy could turn so vicious. It's a real mystery guess it was just a bad dog. Guess the kid is lucky dogs can not buy guns.
Good for the dog!
Lose it all you gun nuts----if we controlled guns this would not have happened-period!
This nut should not have been able to get his grimy hands on a gun, thus GUN CONTROL.
My condolences and prayers to the victems, their families and all the gun nuts out there!
Then move to china You @!$%#ing commie. If you have such a problem with how things are done here then get the @!$%# out!
@@ Dave Hudson - And the woman who was torched in an elevator is SO much better than being shot- just sayin. If he wanted to kill, gun or no gun- he'd have done it.
I carry an AK47 to work and nobody messes with me. I just sling it over my back while working. Does get in the way sometimes. Dropped it one time and a guys leg got in the way. The boss understood so i did not lose my job. Sure helps cutting down on the bullies though. Ha. My condolences to all the victims. LOL
something is wrong with you, rofl.
I wonder if this was another one of the many companies that force their employees to be defenseless on company property........ Another "Gun Free Zone" that ensures ONLY the bad guy has a firearm and has provided a building full of potential defenseless targets.
Someone who walks in and without5 warning gives those armed or not little chance to respond. There uis no shortage of incidents where a armed individual shot and killed numerous armed individuals on military outposts.
Reaction RARELY will beat a action.
This would have never have happened if this man had been chained to the wall of a cave up in the hills and denied any contact with the rest of society.
Did you read and understand the part about "being harassed by fellow employees"? These harassers or adult "semi-bullies" should have been the ones "chained to a wall". I salute the shooter for taking time and care to seek out the ones that"harassed" him,and not just target uninvolved individuals, which happens quite a lot and makes "disgruntled employee" an unjustly maligned term. A grown man only has so many options when he is "harassed" on his job,the more age he has,the fewer options(already working at a lumber yard).Just another instance of "stupid people" bothering people. His employer had nothing against the man, must have been at least a passable employee,he apparently got along with his sensibly behaving, toward him at least, fellow workers. One case of bullying (per available info) closed. NEXT!!
Thank God he died.
Sounds like someone was having a bad day
A case of the Mondays?
In my former workplace the plant manager didn't want to hear about an employee who was a bully or a real jerk. The person who said anything about another employee would get into trouble! Finally a group of people stormed into his office and demanded he do something about a nutcase who threatened other coworkers and even placed a decal on his toolbox that said, "the reason why more people are alive is because it's illegal to shoot them"!
His toolbox was taken away from him, he was scolded, {he was given a hand slap!} and they gave him a new toolbox!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing!
Good you got out.Hope something is done before someone "takes" all a man can stand, and becomes another "disgruntled" employee. The manager would be the one that let all the employees down by not taking care of the workplace, the a__hole was born of a__holes to be an a__hole(it happens).
NRA proud of it. Come at night, you will be here in the morning.
